Cats & Covid-19
This information is taken from the Swedish Veterinary Institute.
For more info, visit their website; www.sva.se
Although SARS-Cov-2 is originally derived from wild animals, the ongoing epidemic of human-to-human transmission is spreading, without the involvement of animals. However, a number of reports show that the virus can be transmitted from human to cat. Infected cats can develop disease symptoms that in most cases are mild and transient. It cannot be ruled out that other animals may also be infected. Until today there are no reports of infection from cats to humans, although this can not be ruled out. However, any spread of infection from infected domestic animals is considered negligible in relation to the spread of infection between humans in society. In order to prevent the spread of infection between humans and animals, and vice versa, the general recommendation is to follow normal hygiene routines when in contact with pets. Hand washing with soap and water before and after contact with animals is a good foundation and extra important only now.
Faq about us:
What is a cat café?
Java Whiskers is a café where at most 9 cats live. It is for everyone to spend a moment in their company and with the opportunity to adopt a cat or just enjoy the cozy and relaxing environment.
“A moment with the cats – A moment for the soul”
May I bring my cat?
No, cats do not always agree and we want our cats to be safe in their home environment.
Can I buy Gift cards?
Yes! You purchase it here.
Why do I need to book in advance?
Java Whiskers have a limited number of slots/hour. To guarantee your visit, we always recommend that you book your slot on our website well in advance.
How do you choose the cats and where do they come from?
The cats come from various cat shelters, emergency homes, organizations and private citizens. We then, together with our partners, select suitable cats.
Why are you not allowed to bring children?
Why is there an age limit?
After a long evaluation and much thought, it has been decided on the age limit of 10 years, and up to 15 years you must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult for two children under 15 years – all pay per person). The decision is made for the cats’ best in mind and for them to feel as safe and calm in the environment as possible. To avoid confusion and annoyance, we make no exceptions – We hope for your understanding.
How do you guarantee the cats wellbeing?
Animal husbandry is evaluated continuously. The welfare of cats is regularly assessed through checklists created by a doctoral ethologist specializing in cats (Elin Hirsch).
In addition to this, we have regular visits from our veterinarian Anicura Gärdet.
The cats can at any time retreat to their own room where they have resting places, food and everything else they need. Their contact with our guests is therefore completely voluntary.
